Therapeutic Approach
aka What is therapy with me like?
Internal Family Systems (IFS): This is the foundation of how I work. IFS helps us get curious about the different "parts" of you: the ones that protect, the ones that panic, the ones that get stuck, so we can understand them and unburden them, instead of judging them or trying to get them to go away. The goal is that YOU are in the drivers seat of your life, not your parts.
Attachment-Focused: Your relationships, particularly in the first years of life, shape how you connect, protect yourself, and show up in relationships now. We'll explore those patterns together, fostering healthier connections and self-understanding.
Psychodynamic Foundation: My clinical training is rooted in psychodynamic theory, which simply means I believe in exploring the past to understand the present and impact the future. We want to get to the root of an issue or pattern to create change, not merely band-aid it.
Holistic Approach: Change doesn't happen through thoughts alone. I work with thoughts, feelings, and somatic sensations - bringing in breathwork, mindfulness, and somatic approaches to help you notice and shift what's happening in your mind, heart, and body.
Also in the toolkit: Depending on what you need, I integrate ACT, EFT, and inner child work to round out our sessions.
Honest and Conversational: I'm not a silent-nod-and-notepad therapist. Expect real conversation, warmth, humor (when it fits), and gentle challenge when you need it.
Heartfelt Connection: The relationship between us is what creates change in therapy. I show up relational and collaborative, not clinical and distant.
If you're open to it: Some clients like to go a step further into intuitive and spiritual work. I incorporate tools like oracle cards for clients who are drawn to that kind of exploration. It's never a requirement, just an option if it resonates with you.

FAQs
Ilana, how do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
The research has proven that change in therapy is not based on how much experience the therapist has or what techniques they use. Instead, it is based on the connection between the client and therapist. So, when choosing a therapist, I urge you to listen to your intuition and pick someone you feel safe with, who you can be yourself with, and who speaks your emotional language.
Do you see clients in person or virtually?
Both! I see clients in person at Intuitive Healing Psychotherapy Practice in Midtown Manhattan or virtually.
How long are sessions and how often do we meet?
Individual sessions are 45-50 minutes and we will meet weekly.
Can’t we meet bi-weekly or as needed?
Consistency equals growth in therapy so in the same way I expect myself to show up for you, I also expect YOU to show up for you. I have found that meeting bi-weekly ends up turning into a catch up of the content of the last two weeks and is a barrier to deeper work.
Do you take insurance?
I am not in-network with any insurance panels but I can provide monthly Superbills for reimbursement through out-of-network benefits.
What about cost?
Individual sessions are $220/45-50 minute session and sliding scale rates are available for those who qualify.
